Transforming newness nerves

group introductions july 2015

What is remarkable is how quickly nerves dissipate in a new group when gardening. Warm introductions help everyone settle, whether gardeners know each other or not. It sets a tenderness and eagerness to get to know one another in a new setting. There are as many ways to make an event of introductions as you can shake a garden sieve at, but what is critical to the early development of a group is the feel of how everyone is cared for, lodged in each gardeners’ heart. It takes mindfulness in the intensity of a group in action to quickly remember names, stories and where to go gently. By creating such a dynamic quickly everyone (usually) enthusiastically contributes to maintaining it, and so the work of gardening healing is gloriously magnified in its collective humanity.
